Seventy Three Things About Me
Where on earth have I been?
It feels like I haven't written anything in the longest time and I have honestly missed it so much. It seems like Rosie started walking and suddenly every second of my day became one big marathon of trying to keep up with her.
In the meantime my own personal time has fallen by the wayside a little, and any free time I do have is spent either cleaning, trying to catch up on a million tv shows that I still need to watch or trying to get some reading in.
Writing seems to have taken a little bit of a back seat, along with my photography, but I've decided that needs to change. One, because I have missed writing so much and two, because in just typing this I have stumbled over the keyboard so much that I am hugely out of practice with my typing. Not helped by the fact that I no longer have an office job!
What better way to ease me into writing again then with a question post. The lovely Penelope, Parker & Baby tagged me to complete this and I thought why not?
So here are 73 things you might not know about me. I'm so looking forward to getting back to writing again!
73 Things About Me
1. What is your usual Starbucks order?
I don't like the taste or smell of coffee so I usually avoid coffee shops, but if I'm going to get any drink from Starbucks it's going to be a Vanilla Frappe (with cream obvs) or a Chai Tea in the winter.
2. What does your workstation look like right now?
My workstation is my home as I'm a Stay at Home Mum so right now it's chaotic because I decided to write this instead of tidying. Toys everywhere, cold cups of tea and at the dining room table where I'm writing there's my camera, my phone and a finished bowl of apple and blackberry crumble.
3. All time favourite food?
I used to absolutely love fried chicken, they knew me in our local chicken shop, but when I had Rosie I went majorly off it much to my dismay! I do love a good mac & cheese, my mum's roast dinner and I'm a big fan of Thai food too.
4. Favourite author?
I always get asked this question because as a English Literature graduate people just assume that I know the name of every author! However I think the person that inspired my childhood and made me first start to write was Enid Blyton (which I know is a bit controversial). So although she isn't current she was important to my future self. I was also hugely impacted by Anne Frank as a teenager and even more as an adult.
5. What do you think of open relationships?
I think they're dangerous as I'm not sure anybody can be 100% jealous free and there is a lot of potential for hurt emotions.
6. Favourite video game?
The Sims, no question! I could play that game all day, every day. I've spent so many hours spent building people, homes and lives! I remember the first day I got it too, I'd actually bought Sim City, seen the trailer for The Sims when I loaded the game and made my dad take me back into town that same day to swap the games over!
7. Guilty pleasure treat?
A whole tub of Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough icecream is pretty special and I definitely feel a bit guilty after.
8. Favourite film?
Currently, The Greatest Showman, I love a musical. But any film with Howard Keel in and I'm there I just adore him, the soundtrack on Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is brilliant, what a voice! Also My Fair Lady is another classic musical which I love and can watch multiple times.
9. Favourite book?
The book that I have reread the most in my life is Career Girls by Louise Bagshawe. It's just the chick lit book that keeps on giving and I love the characters. Every time I read it I change my mind about who's side I'm on and who I'm rooting for and I just love when you can reread a book and find something new in it every time.
10. Twitter or Instagram?
Instagram for sure! I never really got Twitter and I can't remember the last time I tweeted. Actually I'm going to check...
.... September 2018, and it was about Big Brother ending for good. What I am shocked by is that I seem to have posted 720 tweets, when did that happen?! Although that is since 2011...
Instagram became so much more than an image sharing site for me when I had Rosie and I talk about it all the time but to think of all the amazing women I wouldn't have met if it hadn't been for that little app. If you want to follow me by the way you can find me here.
11. Desktop or laptop?
Desktop, because I much prefer having a proper keyboard and mouse, also always PC and never Mac. We only have a mactop at the moment and I still rage over it completely lacks a user friendly experience. I am also all about the Samsung phone so you are never going to convert me to i products.
12. Best advice you’ve ever received?
Trust the timing of your life.
13. What project are you working on right now?
I am really keen to get back to my photography as I enjoyed doing it so much and I lost my way with it a little bit when we moved. But I am happy to say that I have discovered a few people who want their events photographed which I've started doing already and I'm looking to open bookings for Halloween and Christmas Minishoots so I'm getting back on track. I've spent today trying to sort out my website too although it's a huge job that will take more than a day.
14. Favourite colour?
At the moment grey, specifically lilac grey, it's such a lovely colour. I'm having a bit of a love affair with green at the moment too, like a deep forest green. I think it looks so good combined with pink.
15. Did you get good grades at school?
I did ok in my GCSE's (2 A's, 3 B's, 4 C's, 1 D and 2 E's). You can definitely see what I was good at (English) and bad at (Maths). I dropped out of College to run away to Portugal but I then went on to get a 2.1 in English Literature with Creative Writing so it wasn't all bad at all.
16. Dream job?
Maybe it's kind of obvious but being a mother. I never wanted to do anything but have children and watch them grow and I'm so lucky that I've been given the chance to do that. I have also found a real love for photography and wish I'd taken it in College, it might have made me stay to get some A Levels. But probably not...
17. Played any sports?
I'm not sporty in the slightest, much to my body fats dismay. I don't have any interest in sports at all, either playing or watching. I don't mind swimming and I actually love ice skating but that's more of a fun thing to do rather than a full on hobby.
18. Do you have a degree?
Oh I answered this one already! But yes, I have my English degree which I got through the Open University. I worked full time and studied part time for 5 years, and I reckon it's one of my biggest achievements to date.
British, although I'd love to do one of those DNA checks.
20. What is your favourite kind of blog post to do? Probably my least popular but I absolutely loved doing my recipe posts and the food photography as well. When I had Rosie I dropped down to one blog post a week, which was always parenting but I used to do a new recipe post every Sunday. If you're looking for inspiration you can find them here.
21. What do you like to collect?
Photographs! I must have taken thousands of photos over the years, even in college I was the one who would take the camera out and post them all on facebook the next day - much to my friends dismay. I just love being able to look back on the memories.
22. Describe yourself in 3 words?
Stubborn. Confident. Romantic
23. If you were a rapper what would your rapper name be?
24. Who was the last person you dmed?
The wonderful Amy, one of those insta mum friends I was talking about, who's transitioned from instafriend to real life 'we will still be here for each other when we're 80' kind of friends.
25. What’s on the top of your wish list right now?
More money, eyelash extensions and a summer holiday.
26. Hogwarts House?
SLYTHERIN FOR LIFE. I did the test three times just to make sure but I've come to terms with it and I'm now a loud and proud Slytherin.
27. How many tattoos do you have?
Just the one on my hip, it's a celtic knot. I wanted a big one but it's all I could afford at the time so I scaled down. I got it three weeks before my 18th birthday as a final act of rebellion!
28. What are you most grateful for this year?
Moving out of London to the country, I think it was one of the best decisions we've ever made. We aren't any better of financially but I wake up every morning and breathe in the fresh air and watch Rosie play in the garden and I know it's worth it.
29. What’s the best thing that’s happened to you this month?
Leigh got a tax rebate which helped take the pressure off a little bit! Also Rosie has learnt loads of new words and we can have a proper conversation which is mind blowing.
30. What’s the best thing that’s happened to you today?
Managing to find some time to get images uploaded from an event I photographed and making the decision to start charging for my time. A step in the right direction, confidence wise.
31. What’s the best thing ever?
Being at a festival or a club and feeling the bass vibrate through your whole body. I absolutely adore dancing and the way music makes me feel! Also waking up and knowing that I have Rosie and get to spend the day with her.
32. Favourite season?
Autumn, I love the way the air smells and everything gets that bit cosier. I am a big jumper lover and it's so nice to throw on layers! I'm really excited this year because we have a log burner in the new house so we can have lots of fires. Definitely
33. Favourite holiday? I've got two! Our honeymoon to Bali, I had wanted to go for so long and it was the last big trip we took abroad. The resort we stayed at is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. The second has to be our interrail trip around Europe in 2012, we went for 3 weeks backpacking and it was just so much fun and we got to see and do so much.
34. Which fictional character do you relate to most?
So cheating a little bit as it's a true story but Elizabeth Gilbert in Eat, Pray, Love speaks to my soul.
35. Do you like surprises?
I LOVE surprises! Of course the biggest one of all was the surprise we waited nine months for. I am definitely going to do the same thing with any future children we may have.
36. What’s the biggest surprise you ever got?
I was pretty shocked when Leigh proposed to me at Glastonbury, I didn't think he would take the ring to a festival so after months of wondering if he was EVER going to pop the question when he finally did I was so surprised! Also it was a big surprise finding out that Rosalind was a girl. I was desperate for a daughter so had convinced myself that I was having a boy so when Leigh said, 'we've got a girl' I burst into tears.
37. What’s a surprise that’s made you cry?
When we found out we were pregnant. I'd taken the test and gone downstairs to wait for Leigh to get home so we could look together. I'd prepared myself for another month of negative and when I picked up the test I couldn't see anything so I thought it was negative. Turns out I'd picked it up upside down and on the other side there was a big YES. I started shaking and crying, and luckily Leigh caught the moment on camera.
38. What’s the best surprise you’ve ever given anyone?
I really don't know! I'm trying to think if there is something I've done for someone but I'm coming up blank. PASS!
39. Do you like muffins?
Yes! The bakery in my village does some of the best blueberry muffins I've ever tasted. Im also partial to a toasted English muffin!
40. Do you cook often?
I cook every day as I'm the chef in the house. My husband isn't that bothered about cooking whereas I really enjoy it and could spend hours happilly in the kitchen. It wasn't always like that, before I met Leigh I wasnt really that bothered but I wanted to impress him so I started cooking and found a real love for it.
41. What’s your favourite dessert?
Sticky Toffee Pudding or Banofffe Pie, if they are on the menu when we eat out Leigh and I will get one each, halve it and get to have both. It's the best of both worlds that way although theres always close scrutiny on the size of the halves!
42. Is there a dessert you don’t like?
Tiramasu! I cant stand coffee so this is just revoulting, I'm also not massively keen on Chocolate ice-cream much to most people's amazement.
43. Cake or pie?
I'm assuming we are talking sweet pies here, like apple, but I'd still pick cake I think. Carrot, Lemon and Fruit cake are my favourites and I love to bake so being able to make one whenever I fancy it is a life skill I'm particularly proud of.
44. What’s your least favourite food?
I don't really like aubergine so I tend to avoid dishes like Moussaka and I don't like Indian curries, the taste and spice aren't pleasing. I do like Thai Curry though so I'm not a complete lost cause!
45. What’s your favourite condiment?
LOVE Tartare sauce, which is funny because I don't like gherkins, but I also have a soft spot for Salad Cream. I don't think it gets the condiment spotlight enough.
46. It’s 4am on a Saturday night, what would you eat?
I'm going to assume that this is pre baby and I'm on a night out, so I'd probably get a kebab wrap, all the salad and garlic mayo, hold the chillies and a can of full fat coke. If I'm feeling particularly hungry I'd also get some cheesy chips for good measure.
47. If you could teach a college class what would it be called?
101 Things You Need to Know About Being an Adult
It would discuss all the things that you aren't taught in school, like mortgages, loans, how to manage your money, how to cook basic food.
48. Best animated film?
Any Disney, but Hercules is my favourite Disney because Meg is my idol, Hades is hilarious and the soundtrack is the best.
49. What has a guy done or said to impress you?
I find intelligence impressive, so if you can show me that you have your own thoughts and opinions on matters and that you can discuss books with me then I'll want to get to know the guy more.
50. Best thing to do on a first date?
Something a bit different, not just dinner and drinks. My first date with my husband was at his village drinks, dance and hog roast and we had the best time, our second date was to Bristol Zoo which was also memorable so I like to see some imagination.
51. Worst thing to do on a first date? For me it would be to use grammatically incorrect language, I find it a huge turn off if someone can't talk properly. Taking a phone call or being rude to other people would also be a huge no.
52. What’s the funniest pickup line a guy can use on a girl?
The, 'What material is this?' 'Boyfriend material,' always makes me laugh. One guy once I told me that I look like a prettier version of Lily Allen and I let him buy me a drink. My favourite pick up line to use on guys was to head to the smoking area (when I smoked) and pretend that I'd lost my lighter and ask to borrow theirs. Another classic move - wear 3inch heels, take off heels, 'Oh my God, look at you, you're so small!,' and then they want to look after you. Worked every time. And I'm 5"5 so not that small but they were usually drunk!
53. Best comic book character?
I'm not really into comic books, this is better answered by Leigh, who I'm sure would say Spider Man.
54. What are the three things that are always in your bag?
Bottle of water, Baby wipes, Phone
55. Favourite drink?
TEQUILA! If we are talking non alcoholic then Coke or Cream Soda, and if we are talking alcoholic then Cider or Tequila.
56. If you could play a historical character who would it be?
Bit of a weird one considering her demise but Anne Boleyn would just be great. The balls on that woman to keep Henry waiting for 5 years is just incredible! Plus the fashion of the time is just beautiful.
57. Kittens or puppies?
Both? If I have to choose I think kittens though, they're just so fluffy.
58. Favourite sushi roll?
My favourite sushi is Salmon Nigiri, but I would eat sushi all day every day if I could, it's one of my favourite things.
59. What kind of lipstick do you use?
I recently purchased my first Mac lipstick and I love it very much. I also like the Bourjois Matte Lipsticks too.
60. What kind of foundation do you use?
I don't use foundation! My mum always told me that you shouldn't wear make up until you have to and that's a rule I've lived by my whole life. I wear eyeliner, some mascara and lipstick but that's about it. I've always had clear skin and I think it might be because it's always been able to breathe!
61. Blow dry or air dry?
I tend to air dry where possible, I shower at night so I normally let my hair dry overnight. Since I've had Rosie I grab a shower where I can and air dry and I don't have time to do much with my hair anymore.
62. Who is your fashion icon?
63. Favourite Disney character?
I mentioned this above, Meg from Hercules is a hero, she just doesn't take any bullshit. I'm also a big fan of Gus from Cinderella because he's just the cutest.
64. What are you doing tomorrow?
Tomorrow I have got a Coffee Morning and playgroup and then my mum is coming over in the afternoon as I haven't seen her in nearly 4 weeks as they have been on holiday. I've also got work in the evening.
65. Movie you laughed the hardest through?
I love comedies but I think one of my favourites is Role Models with Paul Rudd, it cracks me up every time. In fact anything with Paul Rudd in.
66. Movie that made you cry?
So cliche but they're cliche for a reason, The Notebook. I can't help but sob through it all, it's just at the end when she remembers and then forgets again and he looks so heartbroken and you imagine them young again. Urgh I'm tearing up just thinking about it!
67. If you could sing a duet with someone who would it be?
Craig David, obvs.
68. If your life was a song what would the title be?
I Could Have Danced All Night
69. What’s your favourite animal?
Warthogs! This one always surprises people but I just think they're so cute when they run and their little tails go up in the air.
70. Favourite illustrator?
Currently Abel & The Label for sure! I have so many of her prints in Rosie's room that I joke about setting up an art gallery dedicated to her!
71. Person you want to have coffee with?
I don't drink coffee, but I'd take a cup of chai with my best friend any day of the week. She lives in America so we only get to see each other about once a year, it's hard having the person that knows you the best so far away.
72. What’s a country you wish to visit? I'd really love to go to Fiji, or New Zealand as I've never been. I've also been lusting after a trip to Morocco for as long as I can remember but that's yet to happen. I've been quite lucky and I've been to some beautiful places in my lifetime, although it's a huge regret of mine that I didn't go backpacking when I was younger.
73. Best way to decompress?
A good book and a tub of ice-cream. Or a cuddle with Rosie.
Well done if you've made it all the way to the end, and I hope it has made you think about your answers too! I'm going to try and get back into blogging with regularity again so fingers crossed I manage it.
